The election of the new Conservative party leader: do I need to learn their name for the Life in the UK test?

As you may have seen in the news, the Conservative party have just elected a new leader – her name is Kemi Badenoch, and she’s now the official leader of the opposition.

But do you need to learn her name for the Life in the UK test?

The simple answer is no, you don’t.

You do need to know that there is a leader of the opposition - the official opposition is the political party that came second at the last General election, and the leader of that party, along with the shadow cabinet, is responsible for challenging the government, and putting forward alternative policies.  If this sounds at all complicated – I do explain it clearly on my course!

And just to add, that neither Kemi Badenoch, or the name of the current Prime Minister, Keir Stammer, are mentioned in the official handbook, and it’s the information in this book that you're questioned on in the Life in the UK test – if it’s not in the book, they don’t ask about it.
